The Beelden aan Zee Museum has a fascinating terrace on the boulevard side of the museum. The statues are made by the American sculptor Tom Otterness, who immersed himself in fairytales and legends and modeled them into 23 groups of sculptures. Fairytales like Moby Dick, Hansel and Gretel and Pinocchio are presented in the sculptures. The sculptures seem happy at first sight, but when you take a closer look, they seem scary and at times ghastly. Otterness took subjects from his direct surroundings in Scheveningen to become port of the sculpture terrace. The Haringeter, for example, refers to life in Scheveningen and turned into the icon of the boulevard.
