Rob Scholte (Amsterdam, 1958), wants to give works of embroidery the appreciation that they diserve. He buys every piece of embroidery present at secondhand stores and trunk flea markets and frames them with their backsides, often frayed, facing forward. Scholte signs them and apart from that shows them unaltered to the audience.
Copyright continues to be a recurrent theme in Scholte’s work, and famous masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Fragonard and Millet combine with animals, portraits and landscapes.
