Notebook William Kentridge - FIND THE LESS GOOD IDEA

Not every good idea starts out as one. This notebook takes its name from the spirit of The Centre for the Less Good Idea: a celebration of experimentation, detours and unfinished thoughts. A companion for sketches, lists and the ideas that might not be the best ones, at least not yet.

Founded in 2016 on the initiative of multidisciplinary artist William Kentridge and theatre director Bronwyn Lace, The Centre for the Less Good Idea is an experimental platform for live arts based in Johannesburg. Conceived as a space for creation through collective experimentation and improvisation, the Centre brings together music, poetry, moving image, visual arts and mediation, and gathers artists from a wide range of backgrounds. In 2024, musician and composer Neo Muyanga became the Centre’s impresario and developed a programme of regular activities there.

This notebook is produced on the occasion of the exhibition William Kentridge: I am not me, the horse is not mine at Bozar, Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels (until 7 March 2027).
