Aantekeningen van een eiland - Tove Jansson

In the bleak autumn wind of 1963, Tove Jansson, helped by Brunström, a wilful fisherman, builds a hut on a treeless islet in the Gulf of Finland. The island is called Klovharun, and for thirty summers Tove and her beloved, the graphic artist Tuulikki Pietilä, retreat there to live, paint and write, inspired by the solitude and the ever-changing seascapes.

Aantekeningen van een eiland, published in Dutch for the first time, is both a chronicle of this period and a tribute to the love that Tove and 'Tooti' shared for their island and for each other. Tove's precise prose and Tuulikki's subtle watercolours together form a work of meditative beauty that leaves the reader deeply moved.

Note: the book is written in Dutch.
