Brussels Bound

A city guide

In the Belgian capital, grandeur and laissez-faire alternate at every corner. At times enigmatic and quietly composed, yet also irresistible due to the casual mix of whimsical galleries, world-class museums, and Art Nouveau classics.

This story lives where art and insight meet.

Vruntstraat 1

You might suddenly taste smoky notes while sipping from a pipe (ceci n’est pas…?), or experience the flavour of pear in three different textures – for, in true surrealist spirit, Bar Magritte delights in wrong-footing you. In honour of Magritte’s 125th birthday, Hotel Amigo has opened the very first bar dedicated to the artist. Master mixologist Salvatore Calabrese has created a menu of twenty bespoke cocktails, inspired both by Magritte’s iconic works and by the classics of his era.

For paper lovers and art book hoarders, this is a place of pure delight. After years of collecting books, the owners opened their own shop in 2020 (housed in the former Maison Margiela building) offering a carefully curated selection of the most beautiful new and second-hand art publications: rare catalogues, back issues of iconic magazines, special editions, and limited-run artist books.
