The project Threads of Our Dutch Slavery Past can be visited in various locations in Limburg. In this national art and participation project, residents, artists and heritage institutions work together on a monumental tapestry. The project uses circular textiles, giving fabrics a new life. In this artwork, Limburg stories about connection come together with traces of the history of slavery that are still visible today.

Historian Diana Miryong Natermann (Utrecht University) is researching the slavery past of the province of Limburg together with Christian Ernsten (Maastricht University). Natermann and Ernsten’s research provides, for the first time, insight into previously unexplored connections between Limburg and the history of Dutch slavery.
