Reclining Figures

The exhibition Reclining Figures brings together a unique selection of sculptures centred on one of the oldest and most recognisable motifs in the history of sculpture: the reclining figure. Since Antiquity, this theme has symbolised not only rest and reflection, but also the intrinsic connection between the human figure and its surroundings.
In modern art, the motif of the reclining figure was given a renewed interpretation by Henry Moore, who employed it to explore the complex relationship between the human body and the landscape. In his footsteps, artists such as Charlotte van Pallandt, Mimmo Paladino, and Hans Opdebeeck each developed their own interpretation of the theme, experimenting with a range of forms, materials, and techniques.
