A Fresh Perspective

What happens when contemporary artists look at the past of the Zuiderzee with a fresh perspective? For twenty years, the Zuiderzee Museum has invited artists, fashion designers and photographers to draw inspiration from the rich culture surrounding the former Zuiderzee. The result is work that chafes, surprises and moves.

In this exhibition, you will see a selection from the sub-collection, shown alongside the historical sources of inspiration, such as clothing inspired by traditional dress or photographs based on paintings from the past. The artists bring traditions, crafts and stories from earlier times into the present and give them new meaning. In this way, the collection shows that history remains a source of inspiration today.
