Thread Power
Needlework as Statement
-
Address:
Utrechtseweg 87,

At first glance, needlework seems impressive or beautiful. But upon closer inspection, you’ll discover that it can also contribute to meaningful conversations. For generations, people have expressed themselves with needle and thread: about who they are, what they feel, and what concerns them. From intimate, personal experiences to major social issues; needlework gives voice to what is sometimes difficult to put into words.
In Thread Power – Needlework as Statement you see the technique, beauty and meaning of beadwork, embroidery and repair. You’ll discover how needlework can be a powerful tool for telling stories about emancipation, identity, and sustainability. Also at the Heritage Centre in Rozet, you’ll find a modest display of needlework by Mien Meijer-Bongers (1879-1978). After her death, her daughters donated several practice pieces to the museum, which offer a glimpse into the techniques the girls had to learn.
