A pendant made from boar tusk dating from 9000–4000 BCE, a brooch featuring a sun wheel from 1500–1100 BCE, a pair of earrings from 500–550 CE, discovered in Maastricht. In Bodemjuweeltjes, you’ll discover an incredible treasure trove of archaeological jewellery from Zeeland, objects that tell stories not only of fashion and taste, but also of trade networks, social status, and belief systems.

The Zeeuws Museum highlights rituals and traditions from Zeeland’s past, while also showcasing contemporary designers, revealing how the past resonates in the present. In collaboration with the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden, the classical jewels are now on view for visitors. Thanks to filigree, one of the oldest and most intricate forms of goldsmith work, the silver and gold jewellery remains admirable in every era for its patterns and exquisite detail.
