‘My abstract landscapes depict memories of journeys and travels to places that, although new and unfamiliar, somehow appear recognisable and familiar,’ says Ann Vanoverschelde. Her work can be seen in Knokke-Heist this autumn.
Vanoverschelde focuses on tangible elements in her surroundings that make her feel at home. She conducts research in and with the landscape, by collecting stones, capturing images with her camera, gathering stories, and making quick sketches on location. All these fragments are part of her experiences within the landscape, which she translates into shapes, lines, and textures, bringing this tangible world together in her art. ‘All these experiences and discoveries that captivate me along the way, I want to hold onto and cherish. Because traveling is about collecting treasures,’ she says.
