In Leaning into the Wind, German director Thomas Riedelsheimer follows the artist on his personal exploration of the impact time has had on himself and his art. As Goldsworthy introduces his own body into his work – covering himself in petals and walking through treetops – his art becomes even more fragile and personal but also powerful and robust. “You can walk down the path, or you can walk through the hedge,” says the artist.Andy Goldsworthy’s landscape art has a spiritual beauty and is at once earthy and sensory. He arranges leaves, makes a spiral of branches or mountains of stones, and works with flower petals, reeds and raindrops. Until the wind or water takes the elements again and everything returns to the way it was.
Leaning into the Wind is an immersion into the world of Andy Goldsworthy. The extraordinary camera work supports the aesthetic power of his artwork. Riedelsheimer previously made a portrait of Goldsworthy in Rivers and Tides (2001) and now adds another perspective on his breathtaking work.
