Product: Weaving Waters, Weaving Gestures | Claire Tabouret
'The human face is like the surface of water, always in motion, always elusive, never still. By painting myself, I can capture that fleeting state,' says Claire Tabouret.
In her portraits, she captures these impressions in colourful layers of paint, using unusual materials and a style that is many things at once: classical, romantic, melancholic and mysterious. She plays with art-historical themes and reflects on human relationships, on how we see ourselves, both as individuals and as part of a group. Her portraits often hold up a mirror to the viewer. Her large-scale project, the stained-glass windows for the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, will be unveiled at the end of 2026.
Complementing the exhibition Weaving Waters, Weaving Gestures, the catalogue of the same name presents open gallery views and artworks by the artist at Voorlinden. In the catalogue, Jean-Philippe Toussaint also offers an imagined visit to her studio. The exhibition Weaving Waters, Weaving Gestures by Claire Tabouret is on view at Voorlinden until 25 May 2026.
