Those who live in a landscape give it meaning and exert influence over it. This idea guides the collecting of contemporary art at the Fries Museum. In this exhibition, artists from the Fries Museum collection give meaning to the sea, tides, forests, and to specific regions such as the North Pole, the Wadden Sea, and the rainforest in Suriname. For them, a connection with nature forms the starting point, whether this is physical, spiritual, speculative, or critical. This presentation features new acquisitions as well as older works by Cristina Lucas, Ben Vautier, Henk de Vries, Wally Elenbaas, Witho Worms, Wout Berger, Constant Dullaart, Erin Jane Nelson, Dodi Espinosa, Kinke Kooi, Katja Novitskova, Marjet Zwaans & Totomboti, and Juul Kraijer.
