The LAM museum transforms food into portraits and personalities. From sausages with pouty lips and grinning cheeses to likenesses made from coffee grounds, international artists explore pareidolia and the idea that we are what we eat.
The museum also features food portraits without faces. Artist Itamar Gilboa documented everything he ate and drank over the course of a year and translated it into an overwhelming installation of 8,000 porcelain objects – an intimate self-portrait. The kitchen photographed by Erik Klein Wolterink – with all cupboards and drawers open and presented at life-size scale – feels deeply personal. Through the products and the arrangement of cupboards and the dishwasher, the owner’s character quickly emerges. The kitchen tells who you are.
