From views on marriage and procreation, through desire, taboos and social norms, to the eroticism of spirituality, the Jewish Museum presents the whole spectrum of Jewish perceptions of sexuality.
Art, film, traditional artefacts and new media show how Jewish “positions” have been discussed in rabbinic literature for centuries.
The exhibition is spread over several rooms and organised around four themes: Duty & Pleasure, Desire & Control, Sexuality & Society and Eroticism & the Divine. Each theme showcases a range of Jewish perspectives on sex and sexuality – from religion and rite to art and popular culture. A central space provides space for reflection: visitors can listen to contemporary voices on sex in Jewish culture and share their own views.
