Sara Vrugt (1981) brings activism with needle and thread into her work. Her artworks are temporary biotopes in which we can reflect, but they also inspire action. In Museum Arnhem, a chestnut tree fills the room and invites visitors to lie beneath its branches and glistening bells to listen.

Roerloos is an interactive artwork in which the tree speaks and natural sounds are audible. Beneath the chestnut, stories about our surroundings encourage us to reflect on the relationship between humans and nature. The soundscape was created in collaboration with Ensemble Klang, with composer Keir Neuringer’s Litanies of Trees playing a central role. Ensemble Klang will perform live at Roerloos on four occasions: October 12, November 9, December 14, and February 22.
