The resistance was highly active during the war years from 1940 to 1944 in Knokke and Heist. The German occupiers held on tightly to this region out of fear of an Allied landing from the sea. The Atlantikwall, a belt of bunkers stretching for thousands of kilometres, was heavily fortified here, partly to keep the mouth of the Western Scheldt in German hands for as long as possible. The liberators needed a new, detailed plan for the entire area: Plan B. In May 1944, the plan was completed and reached England.

The exhibition Plan B: Resistance in Knokke and Heist tells the story of this revised plan. You will discover how local residents risked, and even gave their lives to resist the German occupiers. Through personal stories, historical context, and moral dilemmas, the exhibition makes clear how difficult the choices were that the liberators faced.
