Nature, poetry, science and imagination come together in this exhibition on Panamarenko (1940-2019), the artist who loved to be inspired by animals, especially flying creatures. He studied the flight of birds and the mechanics of insect wings inspired him to create self-built flying machines.
Panamarenko’s Zoo aan Zee is the first exhibition to focus on the theme of ‘the animal in Panamarenko’s art’, a highly accessible, artistic animal mess. Through surprising stories and a wide selection of unique sculptures, drawings, photographs, moving images, souvenirs and paraphernalia of all kinds, Panamarenko’s animal love and its artistic effects are highlighted. All this is complemented and contrasted with the complete collection of multiples realised by Panamarenko (1966-2019).
The point of contact for the exhibition is Panamarenko’s permanent installation Waving Crabs – Dancing ensemble with whirlpool and fountain, which has been on daily display on Knokse Zegemeer since 2011.
