You experience the exhibition Open-Ended at your own risk, because to see all the installations you’ll have to overcome a few obstacles, says Benno Tempel, director of the Kröller-Müller Museum. ‘Just as you undergo a ritual, you should also undergo this exhibition, rather than simply observe it.’

Open-Ended brings together a selection of artworks that embody a sense of transition, they act as a passage between a starting point and an end point. For instance, Marina Abramović and Ulay compel visitors to walk through Bone Curtain, a ‘curtain’ made of animal bones. In Clamp, Franz West invites you to strike up a phone conversation with a stranger. In Airport, Chinese artist Zhou Tiehai creates a sound installation of an imaginary airport. These works activate you; they prompt action, movement, and reflection.
