Mysterious Universe

In Mysterious Universe, the cosmic paintings of Cobra artist Eugène Brands (1913–2002) meet the light projections and installations of Gabriel Lester (1972). Together, they create a poetic journey through the universe.

The two artists from different generations share a curiosity about the universe and its unknown faces. The exhibition features works by Brands from different periods of his oeuvre: from pencil sketches and painted assemblages to abstract, overwhelming representations of the cosmos.

Lester creates dynamic light installations, films and projects in public spaces. His works are astonishing places that visitors can step into. The convergence of Lester’s and Brands’ art emphasises the insignificance of humankind and allows our curiosity about our existence to resonate, along with all our small and big questions about life.
