Revelations is a solo exhibition by the legendary American artist Judy Chicago (1939). Chicago gained international recognition from the 1960s onward for her critique of the male-dominated art world. In her work she explores themes such as gender, power, and social justice. Her attention to language, creation, and forgotten histories is connected to her Jewish background. Revelations is the first solo exhibition of Chicago’s work in the Netherlands.
In the late 1960s, Chicago gained prominence through work rooted in a female perspective, challenging the prevailing norms of the art world. The exhibition Revelations takes its name from the richly illustrated manuscript that Chicago created in the early 1970s while working on The Dinner Party (1974–1979). This monumental installation honours the achievements of 1038 women and is permanently on view at the Brooklyn Museum in New York. The manuscript was published in book form for the first time in 2024.
