The fantastical landscape

A new perspective on surrealism

Museum Arnhem

  • Address:

    Utrechtseweg 87,
    6812 AA Arnhem

Using nature as a metaphor or refuge, Museum Arnhem presents a new perspective on surrealism: how artists used the landscape to respond to society and politics, gender identity and expression, and the relationship between humans and nature.

Throughout the history of surrealism, artists have focused on the subconscious and dreamlike realities. Whereas the human body normally takes the centre stage, in this exhibition the landscape is the protagonist. The works in the collection allow you to look at the nature around you in a new way and highlight important contemporary issues.
