Helen Chadwick’s work provocatively challenges gender
binaries with a sharp sense of wit. Her iconic Piss Flowers
(1991-1992) were created by urinating into snow: the central
phallic forms shaped by Chadwick (1951-1996) herself, while
the ‘petals’ were formed by her male collaborator. The final
sculptures, cast in plaster poured into the melted cracks, now
stand as playful monuments to her oeuvre.
The exhibition will highlight Chadwick’s significant impact and contributions to British and international art history by demonstrating her relevance to contemporary feminist concerns, her evolution of material culture and her consistently playful approach.
