Fungi

We use fungi and mushrooms for food, as medicine, and as a design material. But at the same time, they lead lives of their own. In this exhibition, curated by anthropologist Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing and design studio terriStories (Feifei Zhou), artists and scientists present fungi not as serving beings, but as independent designers with their own, sometimes destructive, agenda.

In poetry, paintings, visual arts, and sound and multimedia installations, sensory experiences and visitors’ interaction with the works take center stage. Fungi reveals how fungi exist in collaboration with their surroundings, standing in contrast to the human ambition to control the world around us in hierarchy.
