Fiona Tan

For the first time in its history, the Rijksmuseum is giving a contemporary artist carte blanche to explore the museum’s endless collections, resulting in a major exhibition.

Fiona Tan: Monomania is a compelling exhibition in which Tan takes us on a journey through the mind. The starting point for this is her fascination with the representation of psychiatry in the 19th century. On display are prints by Francisco Goya and Edvard Munch, paintings by Raden Saleh, Japanese masks and christening gowns from the Rijksmuseum collection. The exhibition concludes with the premiere of Janine’s Room (2025), a spatial video installation created by Fiona Tan on commission from the Rijksmuseum.
