The Rijksmuseum Twenthe is hosting the first museum solo exhibition by artist Elsbeth Cochius. Cochius (1951) lives and works in Enschede, and makes linocuts and silkscreen prints that revolve around wonder about nature and its wealth of forms.
Cochius is fascinated by structures and patterns in nature. Her meter-sized linocuts consist of rhythmic patterns of root systems, treetops and swaying grasses. Often her works are vast and scenic, but she also likes to zoom in. Then she depicts details of plants, insects or lichens that are not visible to the naked eye, and in which wonderful and often surreal structures reveal themselves.
