PREMIERE
A special pre-premiere organized by the Filmkrant and See All This art magazine in collaboration with Eye Filmmuseum and Arti Film. With introduction by Nicole Ex (editor-in-chief See All This) and Dana Linssen (editor-in-chief de Filmkrant).
Director Sophie Fiennes takes us to Jamaica where we are introduced to her family and the background of her traumatic childhood is revealed. We see her in Paris on a photo shoot with famous photographer (then partner and father of her son) Jean-Paul Goude and at a spectacular 2016 Dublin performance where she performs iconic hits like Slave To The Rhythm, Pull Up To The Bumper, Nipple To The Bottle.
The director, known for The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema, already shot a documentary about Jones’ brother Noel, a preacher, 15 years ago with Hoover Street Revival. Not long after that, she began Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami, on which she worked for ten years. A trip of Jones with her son Paulo to her homeland Jamaica as well as a unique concert in Dublin in 2016 run as two threads through this impressionistic film. Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami portrays Grace as the gypsy, the artist and partying hedonist, the warm and funny wife and mother with the fierce and tenacious business talent. This is a Grace like we have never known her before.
