ABOUT THIS EVENT
Do you have a favorite wool garment that needs some attention? Do you want to learn how to restore holes and worn spots in a creative and aesthetic way? In the studio at De Proeftuin, artist Bronwen Jones shares her knowledge about age-old weaving and repair techniques. She teaches you how to not only give a worn sweater or sock a new life, but also make it a unique work of art. So don’t forget to bring a piece of clothing that you want to repair.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
We discovered the British textile artist Bronwen Jones earlier this year at Art Rotterdam. In her work she weaves colorful wool into beautiful patterns with existing garments, making the story that each piece carries within her visible. The artist is part of a popular Visible mending movement that, in the era of fast fashion and abundance, expresses the need for a more sustainable relationship with raw materials and clothing. Jones is interested in the relationship between bodies and textiles — the stories they contain and the traces they leave behind. In recent years, her work has mainly focused on restoring clothing for and with the public.
