As part of Gemeentemuseum The Hague, GEM Museum for Contemporary Art represents the museum’s collection of contemporary visual art. GEM specifically focuses on developments in contemporary visual art, both nationally and internationally, through the annual organization of seven exhibitions. From (video)installations, painting and sculpture, to film and from photography to drawing; all disciplines will eventually be in the spotlight.
The Photo Museum The Hague opened in 2002 as a museum for photography that belongs to Gemeentemuseum The Hague. The Photo Museum closely works together with the Print Room of Leiden’s University library. The museum organizes six exhibitions per year, covering a range of periods, disciplines and genres in the history of photography. Humanity often plays a central role. A visit to the museum offers something for everybody and will be surprising and different due to its broad approach, from national to international, classical to contemporary, black and white to colour and applied photography to autonomous work. No wonder that the museum is mainly known for its variety of exhibitions.
