De Pont is an institution focused on contemporary art that is located in a former wool spinning mill, making it into one of the most unique museums in the Netherlands. The former mill has been transformed into a space where contemporary art can be seen at its best. The big, light space of the monumental factory and the intimate ‘wool-storage rooms’ constitute a beautiful environment for the many works of art, ranging from James Turrell to Steve McQueen and from Ai Weiwei to Anish Kapoor. The museum’s acquisitions accentuate a policy of collecting into depth rather than width. Besides the main collection, the museum organizes three large exhibitions per year, that form the foundation of the museum’s acquisition policy. The museum organizes smaller solo presentations that are not directly related to the permanent collection. This combination of the main collection, the large exhibitions and the smaller solo presentations guarantees a surprising and varied museum visit.
