Jan de Jong House

Right next to the highway, but concealed behind a high grey wall in the village of Schaijk in Brabant, stands a unique building: the Jan de Jong House. A private residence and office that was built according to the strict principles of the Bossche School. The architect, Jan de Jong, built it in 1962 – for himself and as a showcase for potential customers. Not only did he design the house, but also the rest of the interior. Up to this day, this interior looks both modern and Spartan. The house, for example, doesn’t have doors (with exception of the bathroom), and the living room was furnished with wooden benches.

The house can rarely be visited, due to the fact that the now elderly widow De Jong resides there up to this day. The family opens up the house to the public on Heritage Day and Heritage Weekend only.
